How elections can affect your stock investments

Whenever an election is taking place in a country, it is wise to be able to stay out of the markets during keynote speeches and during any period when results are due to be published.

Historically looking back at the markets - we can see that certain 'unexpected' election results can have negative or positive swings in how the market reacts to news.

My advice is to either stay out of the markets or 'lighten' your positions to minimise any exposure. It is indeed a wise move as elections generally happen every four or five years and I am sure you can use this volatile time to put your feet up from the trading screen!
